[ Concert Posters ]
I would show up at local record stores & head shops the day after a concert and ask the cashier if I could have the concert poster hanging in the window. It worked sometimes because I was quick to point out that the concert took place yesterday and they did not have any reason to keep it hanging up anymore |
|
[ Backstage Passes ]
Sometimes I was lucky enough to get a backstage pass for shows. Unfortunately, I was unable to keep my backstage pass for the 1976 Rush concert. It was 'rudely' revoked at the end of the concert by a 350 pound security 'gorilla' and I was not about to argue with him |
|
[ Autographed Albums ]
Sometimes I was lucky enough to get an LP autographed by one of the musicians who created it |
|
[ Autographs ]
The crowning achievement to any concert is, without a doubt, getting a musician's autograph. I have been quite lucky by pure chance to meet some musicians before, during & after a few concerts |

Passed out a few minutes after sitting down in my seat 1/2 hour before the show even started. I was supposed to only snort 1/3 of the purple powder in the tiny plastic jar. I did not realize that it was to be shared by the other three people with me. I thought everyone had their own jar. Ooops! Luckilly, I was not interested in either band so this was a good concert to miss

Black Sabbath and Kansas on the same ticket together? WOW! My All‑Time favorite concert EVER. Blew my mind way past the mountains of the moon, past the rings of Saturn, and far beyond the Andromeda Galaxy. When I die, I want to go back and see this show again. Incredible! Black Sabbath was, in my opinion, at their very best musically during this point in their career

A Marion County Sheriff threw me down a flight of concrete stairs after I tossed a frisbee into the crowd. The only thing that saved me was I was extremely drunk. After he laughed and walked away, I confronted the other Sheriff who was standing next to him and asked him how I could file a complaint. He just stared into space as if I wasn't even there. My best friend's dad owned a jeans store and advertised a lot on the local radio station, WNAP. He gave us a pair of backstage passes to this concert. Like the stupid teenagers we were, we had no clue how to use the passes. When Rush started to play, we went backstage and very stupidly handed a gorilla‑sized security dude our passes. We were supposed to peel them off and stick them on our shirt. I was about 10 feet behind Alex Lifeson listening to his guitar solo and then a different gorilla‑sized security dude asked us for our passes. We didn't have them and explanations did not work. We were backstage at that concert for about 3 minutes. We went back to the original gorilla‑sized security dude at the backstage gate and asked for our passes and he said, "What Passes?". Live and learn!

Eagles
Special Guests: Steve Miller / Eddie Money |
The show started at 5PM which was an odd time. Because of the Time Zone difference, we left Indy too late and missed the set by Eddie Money. We walked into the stadium just as Steve Miller started playing. It was a rather subdued crowd due to all the beer and the humidity. I remember it was hot as hell at this outdoor stadium in the middle of August

Black Sabbath
Special Guest: Van Halen |
The first U.S. tour by Van Halen and they blew Sabbath off the stage! Ozzy's voice gave out about half way through the show. Plus, Ozzy was noticeably shaking most of the time. Ozzy was fired by the band the next month but re‑hired to complete the last leg of the 1978 tour. Ozzy was fired for good immediately after this tour

04/12/1984 | Yes | No warm-up band so the beginning of the concert was a Bugs Bunny cartoon with Gossamer. An enormous video projection screen showed 'Hair‑Raising Hare' for eight minutes of audience laughter and mayhem. End of concert was people shuffling out to the Seven Dwarfs tune of 'Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off To Work We Go'

08/22/1984 | Jefferson Starship | Earlier in the day there was a rodeo held in the Coliseum. The crowd for the concert in the evening was forced to sit on the same dirt floor used by the rodeo earlier in the day. Grace Slick hit the stage and before any notes were played she screamed out, 'Hey! Indianapolis smells like SHIT!' The crowd went crazy with laughter

After Spirit played their set, Randy California walked from backstage unnoticed into the crowd. He stopped right in front of where I was sitting and leaned up against a pillar and was listening to the next band on stage. I walked over and asked for an autograph and he ducked backstage right after he signed his name for me. Cool! One of my most cherished autographs!

Concert was at Clowes Hall with carpeted floors in the audience area, chandeliers, marble stairways, etc... A big, bad, motorcycle dude in front of me fires up a cigarette and a small lady usher walks over and tells him to put it out. No Smoking! He grins at her, drops it on the carpet and laughs. Lady usher walks away. She shows up a couple minutes later with two enormous security guards twice the size of big, bad, motorcycle dude who gets ejected from the concert

A nice view from the back with Vinny Appice making his drumsticks blurry. 'Heaven And Hell' Tour - I took this picture backstage on October 8, 1980 Trivia Note: This shot was taken less than 24 hours before the infamous 'Milwaukee Riot Concert' when Black Sabbath walked off the stage |
I love looking at the people in the crowd for this shot who are having an absolute BLAST during the encore of Paranoid on the 'Heaven And Hell' Tour - I took this picture backstage on October 8, 1980 Trivia Note: Geoff Nicholls (red shirt, long hair) can be seen standing to the left of a stagehand who is wearing blue headphones. Geoff Nicholls played keyboards on every Black Sabbath concert tour for 25 years from 1980 through 2005 and also on 10 Black Sabbath studio albums. Other keyboard players for Black Sabbath over the years were Gerald Woodruffe (credited on the Technical Ecstasy LP) and Don Airey (credited on the Never Say Die! LP). All three of these keyboard players were purposefully kept hidden from view of the crowd during live shows so that Black Sabbath's trademarked 'four person persona' remained intact |
