LOADING A SET OF PATCHES INTO FB-01 VOICE BANK #2
The FB‑01 has seven Voice Banks containing a total of 336 available Patches. Voice Bank #1 and #2 are RAM and can be loaded with customized user Patches. Voice Banks #3 through #7 are hard‑coded on ROM IC's and can't be overwritten. Loading a new set of 48 Patches into Voice Bank #1 is quite easy. Simply use a generic SysEx loading utility like SNOIZE (Mac) or SEND SX (Windows) and send a new SysEx Patch file. However, loading a new set of 48 Patches into Voice Bank #2 is somewhat problematic. Why? 99.9% of all FB‑01 SysEx Patch files I have found on the Internet contain hard‑coded commands to automatically load the Patches into Voice Bank #1

Method #1: To load a new set of Patches into Voice Bank #2 when using a generic SysEx loading utility
          a) Make a duplicate of the FB‑01 SysEx file (I always add a name description. Something like FB‑01_SoundFX_BANK-2.SYX)
          b) Use a HEX editor and change one byte of data in the duplicate SysEx Patch file (see Figure 1 below)
          c) Save the new file
          d) Send the new file to the FB‑01 using a generic SysEx loading utility

Method #2: This method is much easier because you don't need to use a HEX editor. Use a Patch Editor/Librarian such as the free Edisyn* program which runs on Mac or Windows systems. This program already contains commands which allow you to select Voice Bank #2 when loading a new set of Patches (see Figure 2 below)

METHOD #1: USE A HEX EDITOR

HEX_EDITOR
(Figure 1)

For all the SysEx techno geeks out there, the seventh byte of an FB‑01 Patch file contains the Voice Bank # to use during a Bulk Load

The complete breakdown of a FB‑01 SysEx Voice Bank Bulk Load file is:
            F0 = SysEx Status
            43 = Manufacturer ID# (Yamaha / FB-01)
            75 = Sub-Status / Op Code (Voice Bank Bulk Load)
            00 = MIDI Channel Number (00 = MIDI Channel #1)
            00 = Message# (This byte is ignored because this file is a Bulk Load and is not requesting any data)
            00 = Operation# (This byte is ignored because this file is a Bulk Load and is not requesting any data)
            01 = Voice Bank Number Location To Send The Data (01 = Voice Bank #2   /   00 = Voice Bank #1)
            dd = SysEx Voice Data (this repeats for the data of all 48 Voices in the file)
                 2 3 4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46 47 48
            xx = Checksum
            F7 = End Of Command

METHOD #2: USE THE FREE EDISYN UTILITY

EDISYN_LOADER
(Figure 2)

* The Edisyn Patch Editor/Librarian is a free utility which works quite well with
the FB-01 and a Mac -or- a Windows system. You can download it at this link
