1) The main purpose of this utility is to weed out all of the AKAI *.ISO files that won't load on the S‑760 and SP‑700 samplers and help to organize a sampler library. It's difficult to tell the difference between S1000/S1100 and S3000 files so the program is kind of a kludge. All S3000 files have a unique identifier at sector block #17920 so that filetype is easy to spot. The code will then check to see if the *.ISO file is a CDDA, Audio, WAV, MP3, Unknown or Roland format CD‑ROM. After process of elimination, the only filetype left is S1000/S1100. The code is nowhere near perfect so it might miss a few straggler *.ISO files which are mislabeled and/or selected by mistake. Clumsy, but it gets the job done most of the time
2) When using this utility on a Mac system, to speed up the load process, open a Finder window and search for all *.ISO files. Drag one *.ISO file at a time from the Finder window directly onto the "Choose File (Safari/Chrome)" or "Browse (FireFox)" button in the browser utility. The file will then be read automatically without having to drill down and search through several directories (click for larger image) 3) As a bonus feature, if a Roland CD‑ROM *.ISO file is selected, it will not be rejected. Instead, the sampler platform for which it was intended will be displayed (S‑750/S‑760/S‑770/SP‑700 ‑or‑ S‑550/W‑30/DJ‑70MKII) 4) The process for "Convert Loading" AKAI S1000/S1100 CD‑ROM's with the S‑760 and SP‑700 is at this link Questions & Answers
Q: Is there any way to run this utility offline without being connected to the Internet?
A: Absolutely! It's quite easy. Simply right‑click on the HTML links AKAI_CD‑ROM_Reader_Release_Notes.html and AKAI_ISO_Reader.html then use the "Download Linked File As..." option within your browser and save these files to a folder on your hard drive. Everything will work exactly the same. To make it look identical with all the original images, right‑click and use the "Save Image As..." option for S1000_or_S3000.jpg, PRG_icon.jpg, s‑760_splash.jpg, sp‑700_splash‑2, sinfzone_inverse.jpg, text_icon.jpg, computer_bug.gif, and paypal_donate_smaller.jpg in the same folder as the HTML files I designed this as an online utility for three reasons: 1) No software to install 2) It's easier to distribute this way as a simple webpage 3) The most current version will always available online Q: Can you add a feature which allows the ability to edit and write the Patch names? A: No way, José! Apple, Mozilla and Google go out of their way to make sure that browsers can't write data directly onto the hard drive because of hackers. The only way to write to the hard drive would be to make a stand‑alone program which doesn't use a browser. I don't code anything other than HTML so no plans for a stand‑alone program are in the works
